Undergraduate programme in Mathematics and Accounting & Financial Management
This programme is divided equally between Department of Mathematical Sciences modules and Business School modules. Although administered entirely by the Department of Mathematical Sciences the programme benefits greatly from the very close cooperation with staff from the Business School. Core topics in Mathematics and Accounting, including areas of economics and law related to accounting and finance, are covered by compulsory modules in the first two years. A range of optional modules in the second and final years allows a wide choice of topics in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting, Finance and Management. Mathematical analysis is increasingly used in the world of finance and business, and optional Mathematics modules like Stochastic Methods in Finance and Operational Research will allow students to see the links between mathematics and finance and management. There is considerable freedom for students to tailor the programme to their own interests. Careers followed by graduates from the programme are in education, financial auditing, accountancy and in many areas of commerce and industry.
